Reality: There are multiple fields that have the potential to satisfy our personal aspirations and professional goals, taking into account that people enjoy and define success in different ways.

With more than 2,000 options for university degrees and careers in Spain (not counting other types of studies!), it would be unrealistic to think that only one of them is the “correct” choice.

And the interests, values, abilities and aspirations of a person change and are different at 20, 30, 40 years old.

According to the above, the logical thing would be to adapt our professional career in line with our personal evolution.

Learning new things; taking on new challenges and changing environments and “careers” if necessary.

And yet, we continue choosing a career or studies at the age of 17 as if “our future” depended on it; as if this decision were something immutable, irrevocable, with no turning back…

At 17 years old I had no idea what career to choose.

I have changed jobs several times and have studied very different things since then.

It’s time to question the myths.

Ask and ask yourself many questions.

The post DEBUSTING MYTHS: ONCE YOU CHOOSE A CAREER or TRAINING, YOU STAY WITH IT FOR LIFE. first appeared on Ana Torralba.

No, it is not a question taken from a philosophy class or a personal development podcast.

This is the question my little son asked us the other day in the car on a trip.

What would you answer to that?

Many reach the end of their lives without having asked this question. Others need “something strong” to happen to them to do it: an illness, a loss…

Then there are “age crises” – that of 30, 40… – also called “existential”, precisely because it invites you – in a more or less abrupt way – to ask yourself this question that naturally and calmly arises. an 8 year old boy ago.

My friend Alba Olmedo reminded me yesterday, from the (great) BeForGet newsletter, the importance of spending some time alone with ourselves (she launches the 15 minute challenge) to dream; to wander and think about your “why am I here”…and start writing everything that comes to mind: the big and the small.

Especially the “small”, what seems inconsequential.

Some need 15 minutes. Another 38 years. Some is yet to come.

“I think we exist to help others and the planet. But sometimes we don’t do it very well,” he said.

The post What do we exist for? first appeared on Ana Torralba.
